When I made my earlier post about how America is stupid for making their own Sherlock TV show and how I thought they were idiotic for putting Lucy Lu as Watson, those were my legit feelings.
A) America is always trying to rip off some TV show from somewhere else. Take SKINS for example. America decided ‘WOW, that show is doing so well over there, let’s make our own’. See how that one turned out? Then there’s Being Human. While I love America’s version of Being Human, I still thought it was a bit weak to take a idea that has already been done and make it into your own thing. Sure, it’s fine for fanfics, but in my opinion, it’s not cool for TV.
B) Lucy Lu is a fine actress. I love her work. HOWEVER, Watson has never been and never will be a WOMAN. He was never a woman in the books and I believe Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would be rolling in his grave to find out that America is completely twisting Watson around like that. Sure, throughout the years there have always been new takes on the Sherlock stories, but, this one is just too ridiculous. Knowing how American TV shows are (and I should know, since, duh, I live here), more than likely Watson and Sherlock will now have a ‘thing’ for one another just to bring ‘sex appeal’ to the show.

When I said I was going to move to England because of it, that was clearly an exaggeration on my part and is never going to happen because of a dumb TV show. If I was going to move out of America because of a TV show, I would have done it the moment Jersey Shore or 16 and Pregnant came out. You see, unlike what you deducted from my previous post, I am not a ‘stupid f**king moron’.
I happen to like England though and wouldn’t mind moving there, just because I want to. I’ve always wanted to live there. So, the fact that I said I was moving from America and going to England wasn’t based purely on the show, it was based on my liking for the country. You people never took the time to get to know me and ask me that, you just assumed I was going to move there because of my post - which clearly had more to it, though I was giving you a shortened version because I thought ‘what the hell, no one is going to read a long post on my feelings about Elementary anyway’. But here you go, rude people of Tumblr! Here’s my long post explaining myself so that you can wrap your tiny little brains around WHY I said what I said. I didn’t have to explain myself to you, but, since I am older than HALF of you people flaming me for what I said, I thought I might EDUCATE you some. Fun fact: Sir Arthur Conan Doyle hated writing Sherlock Holmes, and when he ‘killed’ him off in Reichanback Falls, he had intended to leave him dead. But since the story was so popular, he basically had his arm twisted into writing more, even though he had spent 8 years away from the series and he wanted to focus on his historical novels. So the fact that they changed Watson to a woman probably wouldn’t make him roll in his grave; the fact that the series is still popular itself would. And how close minded people are with interpreting the characters (also fun fact: The public’s reaction to BBC Sherlock was very similar to yours because it dared to be in the modern era).
There’s nothing inherently wrong with changing a character’s gender, and I don’t think there in lies the problem with Joan Watson (but you’re already judging her purely on her gender). The problem is how much Watson’s background is actually changed? I mean I know America doesn’t allow females on the frontlines, but it’s not like it would have been improbable for her to be a combat medic and still gotten injured.
But yeah. People are angry because, if you look at what you’ve posted above, you went the ‘I’m not sexist BUT’ route and then blacklisted an unreleased series mostly over the gender of a character. That’s going to make people angry. And yeah, America remakes a lot of things it maybe shouldn’t, but also blacklisting a series without seeing it is fairly close minded.
So sorry you’re upset people got mad at you? You’re entitled to your opinions, but when they’re in public domain, people can and will respond. Not even going to message you about this because half of the point of tumblr is reblogging things?

So far I’ve really disliked the direction they’ve gone with each of the female protagonists for the Awakening DLC, each for different reason’s. It’s not a deal breaker to me (because hey, what’s DLC? Downloadable Content? Not Required Content? Yep.) Now I apologize in advance if this turns out…

I agree with what people are saying about the designs, but at the same time I also think that they’re gorgeous. Even if they don’t exactly think that they’d be easy to fight in/fit the character. Micaiah’s design may be a little…showy, but I still respect the art and the outfit. With Elincia and Eirika, what they’re wearing might not exactly be practical, but I still think they’re stunning nonetheless.
It you look at them by themselves, the art is nice and you can tell effort was put into them, I agree. I’m just very particular about how females are treated versus men with these redesigns, and to me there’s an obvious difference in them? I still respect the artists though, it’s a big gamble to redesign characters like these, especially since FE is really popular in Japan.
It’s not that I don’t think they’re trying, but there is such a thing as overdesigning and I’m pretty sure this crosses that line. As a female fan I feel fairly insulted that they’d make every single female character redesign look absolutely tacky and/or impractical and/or radically changing their original concepts for the sake of some nonsensical imagined need for fetishization or fanservice or something, much more so than any of the dudes have been treated so far (though imo theirs have mostly been overdesigns as well, especially Roy).
Let’s break it down: Micaiah randomly got shunted to Default Dark Mage Plus Boob Window Central for no good reason and if it wasn’t already obvious that her redesign is meant for fanservice, the promotional art is inexplicably done in that creepy oversaturated moe style complete with pink-shaded cleavage. Elincia’s probably the least egregious but she’s not wearing any pants for some reason, and she has a fucking rhinoceros horn on her head. It’s fine if you think Eirik’s dress looks pretty on its own because it does, but in this context it’s just horrible and impossible and makes less than zero sense especially when you compare it to her original design? Not to mention that the entire concept of changing her into a ~magic bride~ is pandering to a very demeaning and sexist interpretation of her character.
I’m not really looking forward to Lyn or Celica, needless to say.
Exactly my problem, but I’m not so angry at the artists. I think there’s a certain amount of direction the artists are getting from the company because I really don’t think the developers are letting them have full reign before animating them, but like… It’s really upsetting that anyone thinks that radically redesigning females are so necessary? Considering all three females they’ve chosen to bring in so far had very lovely designs in the first place.
Quite a lot of the males have been overdesigned I think too, not just Roy, but it’s still vastly different from how the women are being treated. The men still look like themselves and are getting shuttled into classes that fit them for what they were. If anyone likes these redesigns of the ladies, that’s fine, but I implore you, please don’t think there isn’t anything wrong with them. As a female fan, it’s really disheartening to see other females be treated like fodder and fan fuel so needlessly.

But I liked what we had so WHY ARE WE CHANGING IT?
Yeah can we stop making sexist comments about Staff Chicks and more about how they basically changed everything about her so she could be a creepy impractical fetish item???
Fire Emblem is filled with strong, bow wielding ladies (Sue, Rebecca, Louise, Igrene, Dorothy, Astrid, Noire, BRIGGID) and staff ladies (Lena, Maria, Elice, Serra, Natasha, Mist, Liz, Priscilla, Clarine, etc). There is no weapon that is distinctly female and I will call you on BS for it since there’s also male archers and male healers. Eirika having them doesn’t make her ~weak~
But there is some sense of, oh I don’t know, CONTINUITY FOR A CHARACTER??? In the case of DLC, all characters are physically redesigned. But if you then take away their main weapon, are they even the same character anymore? Eirika without swords as her dominate weapon really isn’t Eirika anymore.
I feel like the more I sit on this the angrier I get hmm that’s a problem.
